01 — PLANS

You bring the idea

Plans or sketches you provide are the starting point — an addition, a new build, or a change to what’s already there.

02 — ESTIMATE

Free estimate

Spencer looks at the job and gives you a free estimate. For roofing, that includes coming to measure and walking through products and samples.

03 — BUILD

Hands-on work

The crew self-performs the carpentry — framing, roofing, and concrete — rather than handing your job off and walking away.

04 — CONNECTIONS

Trades when needed

When a job needs expertise or trades Spencer doesn’t keep in-house, a wide range of industry connections fills the gap, start to finish.

Wood framing of a new bungalow under construction

Frame New House

The owner of this 2,400 square foot bungalow wanted the hands-on approach, but didn’t have the time and expertise required to frame a home. Spencer Construction took on the framing portion on an hourly basis, with assistance from the homeowner and his family.

Roof Restructure / Reinsulate

This old farmhouse had only woodchip insulation and no vapour barrier — warm pockets on one side, cold on the other, and doors that shuttered in the wind. Spencer removed the old roof and insulation, installed new polyurethane spray foam, and built up the roof structure for new overhangs and proper air circulation, eliminating ice damming.

Truck Scale

This client required a new 90-foot truck scale. The design incorporated piles with cast-in-place pile caps on top. Spencer built abutment walls at either end of the scale and poured 12-foot structural approach slabs.

New Roof — Red Lake

Our client from Red Lake had already completed the steel frame and concrete for this 4,000 square foot home. Spencer’s scope included the install of the trusses and metal roof cladding.

Residential or commercial

Spencer’s carpenters and finishers have experience on large commercial concrete structures as well as residential work. If you’ve got plans or even just a sketch, that’s enough to start.

Spotlight · Design & build

204 Sigma Ave

The design and build of a new 1,372 square foot house, built on speculation in 2004. Andrew performed the framing, roofing, installation of windows & doors, hardwood flooring, ceramic tiling, painting, and finishing carpentry, and assisted subcontractors with the electrical and plumbing.

The majority of the concrete work was subcontracted, with the exception of the forming of the front steps. The project was a huge success — it sold before completion.

About

Led by Andrew Spencer

Spencer Construction is a Winnipeg based company offering carpentry and construction management. The approach is hands-on: self-performing the majority of the carpentry work — framing, roofing, and concrete — so quality and cost stay under direct control.

Roofing has always been a big part of the business, with 15+ years in it — and the work goes well beyond shingles, into restructuring, reinsulating, additions, metal roofing, cedar shakes, and low slope applications.

For concrete, the focus is ICF walls and grade beams, with slab work and wood forming taken on when the need arises — for both large commercial structures and residential jobs.
